Calories do count but nutrients are more important.
When we only focus on calories or counting ‘points’ we view food choices through distorted glasses. Calories are not equal just take a look at the image below. All the food choices pictured contain the same amount of energy = 200 calories, however, it’s how our body responds to that energy that makes the difference.
Cheap fuel syndrome
Imagine you owned a Ferrari, my guess is, you wouldn’t fill it up with economy fuel from a supermarket pump. It’s not that, that fuel wouldn’t do the job, fuel is fuel, right? However, the reason you’d choose to fill it up from somewhere with better quality fuel is because you wouldn’t want to risk impurities in the cheap petrol damaging your prize car.
Become a Superhuman-Ferrari
The exact same thing happens in the body. If you want to fuel performance aka. your best life – you need to provide your body with the highest QUALITY of nutrients. I’m not saying counting calories doesn’t work, of course, it does because that deficit of energy is essential if you want to lose weight. However, if you ONLY focus on calories and decide to ignore nutrients – your results will be short-term, you’ll be miserable to be around and you’ll be sacrificing your longterm health.
Earn the right
We know trying to improve your health and lose weight can be frustrating – we all want the results yesterday!
However, if you want SUSTAINABLE results you have to earn the right to achieve them. The average life expectancy in the UK is 83. Wouldn’t you rather spend one year (it often takes much less than that) getting into the best shape of your life both mentally and physically – then enjoy being a Superhuman-Ferrari for the rest of your life than struggle your way to 83?
Here’s the problem; SUSTAINABLE weight loss ‘solutions’ ‘resets’ and ‘transformations’ ONLY work well when you start with a foundation of good health and wellbeing. This element is so important that we actually warn our clients at the start that they probably won’t lose a single pound for the first six weeks of working with us. Of course, this is mainly determined by how unwell they are when they start with us.
Take the test
If you want to lose that excess weight AND become a Superhuman-Ferrari for the rest of your life, you’ll first need to be able to confidently yes to ALL the following points;
1. I hydrate with water first thing and throughout the day.
2. Over 85% of my diet comes from real food (not from a packet).
3. I consume a variety of vegetables and fruits – over 5 portions of vegetables a day and 2-3 fruit.
4. I rest my digestive system for at least a 12-14 hours every night (e.g. 8pm-8am).
5. I enjoy 7-8 hours of quality sleep every night and wake up feeling rested.
6. I manage my internal and external stressors and feel resilient over 90% of the time.
7. I consciously consume over 90% of the foods and drinks I consume.
Once you can say yes to all 7 points then you’ve passed our level 1 ‘quality-control test’ and you can move onto level 2: Quantity.
