Together Everyone Achieves More
When my alarm went off at 6.30am on Sunday morning I questioned why I’d agree to run the London Winter Run again this year. Coach Penny first booked her place to inspire some of her members and by the time Tom and I had met up with everyone I’d remembered why I’d signed up – Educate yourself first, empower others through your actions, exceed together!
By 10am we’d dropped our bags off, completed the standard pre-race toilet stops and were making our way to the starting line. Amongst the group was HJ (read her personal 0-10km story here), Wendy and Stuart all of whom had never run a 10km race before. We joked around in the warm-up pen deciding who was running with who before eventually crossing the start line and the race was on!
For me running is one of the most empowering activities you can do because it forces you to spend more time outside, it’s practically free and you can do it anywhere. In my opinion where people go wrong is that they try to run too fast (yes even you reading this now – you have a slower gear!) When we slow down the body is able to utilise oxygen better which makes running so much more enjoyable.

HJ was the first of the 10km virgins to cross the line with coach Penny by her side, closely followed by Wendy and Stuart all of whom couldn’t stop smiling – that is once we picked our bags up and found Byron Burger! I loved looking back over all the pictures in this post because they encapsulate the DayOne Wellness ethos:
- REAL FOOD – focus on nutrients, not calories.
- OUTDOOR MOVEMENT – exercise where you can see the sky for double the benefits.
- FACE-TO-FACE CONNECTION – spend more time with humans than screens.
There’s no doubt that wellbeing is complex but if you get these three right you’ll be 80% there!
Around the table; Penny, Marc, Paul, Wendy, HJ, Guy, Neil, Sara, Neil, Julie, Tom, Stuart, Mandy, Sharon, Maya & Pip.
p.s. Yes, there is beer in the picture’s above! Life’s about balance, we’d run 10km! 😉
p.p.s If you’d like to learn how to run, run faster or simply avoid reoccurring injuries our next runner’s retreat is on Sunday 24th February.
