Meet July’s client of the month, Pip’s incredible Uncle, Paul Beament. Paul is a self employed chef who runs a successful outdoor catering company with his daughter – called The Complete Lunch.
Pip says; Uncle Paul has been the guinea pig of DayOne Wellness long before the company was even born and should have really received this accolade months ago. Like a lot of my family, he has battled with his weight for years which has contributed to numerous health conditions and has meant up until recently he was on a whole list of medications. I’m really close with my uncle and whilst I was studying we’d regularly chat about health, nutrition and weight loss but Uncle Paul would always end up back at square one.
Around three years ago his mobility had become really bad due to his rheumatoid arthritis, so in an effort to help I asked if he’d like to trial a new business idea I had. At the time we didn’t live close by so we started talking over Skype about nutrition and lifestyle changes he could make, then every six weeks or so I’d train him at his gym and write a new programme for the next six weeks.
The irony is each week I was learning as much about how to be an effective coach as Uncle Paul’s was learning about health. Without realising it, after a year of coaching him I’d effectively created what’s now become our signature coaching method!
Paul says; It has been a joy to watch my niece grow up but we’ve certainly had a role reversal! I used to guide and advise her and now she does the same for me. Pip has helped me become much healthier and fitter with encouragement, motivation and goal setting. I think the two things I have learnt that have made a big change to my health are:-
- Whatever help or support you have its up to you to take responsibility for yourself.
- The changes I have made are for the rest of my life and hopefully will make it longer to enjoy my grandchildren (5 at moment!)
“It has been a long battle to get healthy but I feel I am making great progress and look forward to continuing, and to enjoy the benefits!”
Paul’s journey certainly wasn’t as plain sailing as it is now for our clients but thankfully his determination combined with his patience has paid off for both DayOne Wellness and himself! Paul is now over 3 stone lighter, he can ride a bike – where before his knees were too stiff to cycle, he has more energy than most people his age, even though he regularly works 50+ hours a week! But most impressively this month his rheumatoid specialist has taken him off THREE medications.
Pip says; They say working with family is one of the hardest things you’ll do, but when it works it’s also the most rewarding. I might have pointed Uncle Paul in the right direction but all the hard work, persistence, mental strength and inspirational changes were all made possible by him – congratulations boss, I couldn’t be prouder and can’t wait to see what else you can achieve!
If Paul’s story has inspired you to change your health then visit our 1:1 Coaching Page to find out more about our signature 12 week programme because no one becomes the best by comparing themselves to others, you only become the best by beating the person you were yesterday, so when’s your DayOne?
